Wealthy Affiliate Negative Review

This negative review of Wealthy Affiliate highlights some conerns.

People who succeed in creating profitable online businesses, do two things very well:

First, they are committed to their success having the focus, persistence, and patience to see their business succeed.

Second, they are prepared.

You may be wondering, what does being prepared have to do with this Wealthy Affiliate negative review?

I am guessing you are here because you are looking for a Wealthy Affiliate negative review or more information about the Wealthy Affiliate program.

Wealthy Affiliate has warts.

Instead of reading another glowing review of Wealthy Affiliate, you will learn negative factors to consider before joining Wealthy Affiliate.

Wealthy Affiliate Introduction

If you search for Wealthy Affiliate reviews, you will find lots of positive reviews and very few Wealthy Affiliate negative reviews. There are several reasons for this.

First of all…

Wealthy Affiliate is acknowledged as one of the best online affiliate marketing training programs for beginners and experienced alike. Advanced marketers may not find Wealthy Affiliate as useful.

Secondly, but more importantly…

As part of the Wealthy Affiliate training program, members are encouraged to write Wealthy Affiliate reviews as well as reviews of other products and services. Consequently, Google search engine results pages (SERP) will show many Wealthy Affiliate reviews highly ranked.

The member reviews are easy to spot.

The Wealthy Affiliate member reviews often contain the phrase, “My #1 recommendation,” and an affiliate link to the member’s Wealthy Affiliate web page.

Before going further, it is important to note the following affiliate disclosure.

Wealthy Affiliate Disclosure

I am a Wealthy Affiliate member and have been since May 2016. I have completed the training courses, am active in the community, and have 3.1K followers among the membership.

In my attempt to be completely transparent, I have an affiliate relationship with Wealthy Affiliate and some of the other companies whose products or services you may find on this site.

This means that, at no additional cost to you, I will earn a commission or credit should you decide to buy any products or services. Please note that any link you may click while on this site may be an affiliate link.

This is one of the ways I pay for maintaining this site.

Why am I doing a Wealthy Affiliate Negative Review?

First of all, I am NOT a disgruntled Wealthy Affiliate member.

As I have said before, there is no such thing as a perfect company, training program, business opportunity, or whatever.

I covered many of the positive benefits in my recent Wealthy Affiliate review. I decided to split the negative aspects into a separate review.

Consider the following Latin proverb:

Praemonitus, praemunitus

Forewarned is forearmed.

When you know that something is coming, you are better prepared to face it than those who do not know.

Here is the deal:

If you understand the negatives, you can be prepared to face them head-on.

5 Wealthy Affiliate Complaints

Without further ado, here are my five Wealthy Affiliate complaints:

1. My criticism with Wealthy Affiliate has more to do with how members promote Wealthy Affiliate than with Wealthy Affiliate itself. Specifically, many members promote Wealthy Affiliate by reviewing other programs or business opportunities as scams and then inviting readers to take a look at Wealthy Affiliate. Typically, they use words like “My #1 Recommendation” or "Is Wealthy Affiliate a Scam?"

But it gets worse!

Too many members use a "bait and switch" strategy to promote Wealthy Affiliate. They create a negative review bashing a competitor and then recommend Wealthy Affiliate as a better alternative. Wealthy Affiliate has been accused of encouraging members to write fake reviews. A competitor released a review and an extensive study revealing some startling results.

Honestly, I do not know where this "bait and switch" strategy originated. I completed all the training and never saw it taught in any of the lessons or videos.

2. A related criticism is with members who decide to promote Wealthy Affiliate rather than promoting a non-make-money-online niche product.

The power of the Wealthy Affiliate training program is the identification and selection of a niche in which to create a business. The concept is simply...

identify your passion, share it with others, and make money online.

The training focuses on identifying a member's interests, hobbies, passions, or things that they enjoy. Once a member has identified a niche, then they are taught to build and develop a website to reach their targeted audience.

Besides promoting Wealthy Affiliate, I have a diet-related site for seniors. The screenshot below is from my Pinterest social media account showing a recent average number of monthly viewers to my Pinterest boards.

Average monthly viewers reaches 1 million!

Pinterest data for my canseniorslosebellyfat.com account.

But when members don't achieve their expected success with their chosen niche, they have a tendency to start promoting the Wealthy Affiliate business opportunity.

I don't recall seeing business failure rates discussed in any of the training I completed. But from the Small Business Administration data, about two-thirds of small businesses survive at least 2 years and about half survive at least 5 years. The Small Business Administration does not have survival rates for sole proprietorships. But according to their data, 75% of small businesses are run by a single person or married couple.

But from the data provided, members can expect high failure rates. This is especially true in the make-money-online niche given the number of scams, dodgy products, and predator marketers.

You can miss a fortune by quitting too soon.

Persistence pays off.

Success takes a commitment. Too many people are looking for the next big thing. So they will jump from one opportunity to another without giving the first one a chance.

3. Technical Support from Wealthy Affiliate can be much better. First of all, Wealthy Affiliate uses a trouble ticket system for members to report technical issues. Unfortunately, the system does not allow a member to prioritize the technical issue between a routine or critical one.

There would be better customer service if Wealthy Affiliate provided technical service by telephone or live chat with the technical support staff.

Wealthy Affiliate has a live chat feature. But it is for and used by the Wealthy Affiliate community, not the technical support staff. However, I have seen both Wealthy Affiliate owners participate in live chat. The quality of responses to member questions is dependent upon the experience and skill levels of members providing answers. Needless to say, I have seen conflicting answers and even incorrect answers given on a wide range of topics.

The Wealthy Affiliate community is very supportive and helpful. But when it comes to website support and hosting, the appropriate source is the technical support staff.

But here is the kicker:

I had one of my WA-hosted websites hacked. I would have preferred to talk or live chat with a technical support person rather than submit a trouble ticket and the subsequent chain of private messages.

Tech support messages regarding hacked site.

This was not my first rodeo...

A few years ago, I had a website hosted by another website hosting company hacked. Their technical support services were much better as I submitted an emergency request for support via live chat. And then communicated live with a technical support technician.

4. Wealthy Affiliate claims to be among the best-managed WordPress hosting companies. But, "best" is such a subjective word.

You may be wondering:

What is managed WordPress hosting?

From ThemeGrill:

"Managed WordPress Hosting is a specialized hosting service for WordPress where all technical aspects of running WordPress is managed by the hosting providers. This is to free the website owners from technicalities so that they can completely focus on building a website and creating content."

Funny thing...

Technical aspects appear to be fuzzily defined.

My research online indicates that managed WordPress hosting focuses on faster loading times, better security, and expert WordPress support. Managed WordPress Host’s servers are configured to provide better and faster WordPress performance.

Specifically, technical aspects include security, speed, WordPress updates, daily backups, website uptime, and scalability.

Hmmm, makes me wonder why the same is not the objective of non-managed or non-WordPress hosting. Unless the excuse is to charge premium prices.

Continuing on...

The need for speed. Best managed WordPress hosting companies use specially configured servers to host WordPress sites. They often make use of their own Content Delivery Network (CDN) and server-level caching to speed things up.

Consequently, they will not allow caching or other WordPress plugins that would reduce speed or impact server resource loads.

Security tighter than Fort Knox (where the U.S. gold is stored). Everyone states their security is the best. But the security should be close to hack-proof with active scanning for malware and blocking hacking attempts.

From the Wealthy Affiliate website:

Managed WordPress hosting prices compared

Wealthy Affiliate compared to the consensus best managed WordPress hosting companies. (winningwp.com and others).

Searching Google for the best-managed WordPress hosting sites will show Pagely, WP Engine, Pressable, and a few others among the best managed WP hosting companies. I did not see Wealthy Affiliate hosting among any of the first pages Google SERP listings.

What does that tell you?

Did they cherry-pick the competition?

I compared Wealthy Affiliate hosting with SiteGround. SiteGround is a highly regarded managed WordPress hosting company that frequently shows up among the best.

Wealthy Affiliate and SiteGround hosting costs compared

*Regular price. Wealthy Affiliate offers 6-month plan for $39/month. On the other hand, SiteGround offers $5.95/month for their GrowBig plan for the first invoice. Once the initial term is over, regular price applies. (Term up to 3 years.)

People know Wealthy Affiliate for their high quality training program in affiliate marketing. Consequently, they have bundled their hosting plan with their premium training package. Hosting is not separately priced.

5. Live Chat is a big part of the Wealthy Affiliate community experience. Members are online 24/7. And the Live Chat feature is a big part of the community experience.

There are times when there are many members using Live Chat, which causes the feed to scroll quickly. Consequently, I have difficulty following specific conversations. Being a slow typist does not help me stay caught up.

It does not help that members use Live Chat as a substitute for technical support. Questions are impossible to answer unless a responder is a member of the technical support staff. I have seen conflicting answers given to questions. This makes me wonder if it is the blind leading the blind.
