Roundup: New Website Hosting Reviews (2019)

Learn about the top website hosting reviews of highly rated and regarded review sites. I recently wrote a SiteGround website hosting review. This got me thinking about other web hosting companies and which ones were best according to the experts.

So I visited some sites that review and rank web hosting companies. The chart below shows the six review sites I visited with their top ten website hosting company recommendations.

I also mentioned in my SiteGround review that it is preferable to find an independent hosting company. There is a consolidation ongoing in the industry. Endurance International Group is buying up individual hosting companies, and not necessarily for the better. Michael Bely discusses the impact of the EIG acquisitions in his blog post.

The following chart shows the top 10 website hosting companies listed in six popular review sites. I provided links to the review sites to help you check out their website hosting reviews.

Here is my Friday Roundup of the top website hosting companies plus a recent review of Kinsta, a premium web hosting company reviewed by Jon Dykstra of Fat Stacks Blog.

SiteGround Review Popular Option for WordPress Community

The folks at Hosting Facts, say,

SiteGround has delivered solid uptime for a few years now. And their uptime guarantee makes sure that you’ll probably never have any major downtime issues.

Pricing is good if you take advantage of the longest term possible. Otherwise, you’ll end up hitting those high renewal rates sooner. Bring your own domain, too, to escape another fee.

My Kinsta Hosting Review After 22 Months (All My Sites Hosted There)

Jon Dykstra, publisher of the Fat Stacks Blog, recently wrote a blog post reviewing Kinsta. He hosts all his sites at Kinsta and couldn't be happier. Blazing fast servers are a big plus.

DreamHost Web Hosting Review (2019)

Quick Sprout rates DreamHost the best web hosting company for shared and cheap hosting plans. Quick Sprout also noted that DreamHost is one of the three "officially" recommended WordPress managed hosting companies on the WordPress.org website

Bluehost Web Hosting Review (2019)

If you are looking for a new web hosting service, Bluehost is a top option to consider. The Bluehost platform powers more than 2 million sites across the globe.

Ryan Frankel (HostingAdvice.com):

Bluehost has long been a favorite of mine in the shared and WordPress hosting spaces. The company adheres to modern standards for hardware, and its customer support is fantastic.

HostGator Review - Why People Love/Hate It? (2019 User Reviews)

Not really recommended for most. Good uptime. But when you add in the extra costs and slow speeds, it is not a good value compared to other hosts available.

Yet, the folks at isitwp have mixed feelings about HostGator. And they ranked it #3 on their list!

HostGator Review (2019) - The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly!

The people at isitwp did not say anything terrible about HostGator, so I don't know what's ugly about it. One thing I noticed is that performance was not mentioned as a pro. Nor was it a con either.

Hostinger Reviews (Jul 2019) - Why 4.8 Stars?

According to Laura Bernheim, Hosting Expert at hostingadvice.com, Lithuania-based Hostinger is:

A champion of affordable hosting, Hostinger is a popular pick for site owners looking for beginner-friendly shared servers. More than 29 million customers call Hostinger home as they scale websites through site builder, VPS, and WordPress hosting plans. When searching for a new plan, Hostinger is among the best at balancing high quality with low prices.

InMotion Hosting Review: Are They The Real Deal Or Trading On Borrowed Time? We Asked The Users

Over 550 of WhoIsHostingThis users have rated InMotion Hosting 4 stars out of 5 in terms of support, quality, features, and value. The vast array of hosting plans is seen as a weakness. I guess InMotion Hosting has a plan for everyone.

Finances Online particularly likes InMotion Hosting for being highly regarded for its flexibility and reliability and the quality and variety of its customer support (phone, chat, email, or ticket system) delivered by US-based tech support personnel.

The chart shows the trends as reported by Google for the last 5 years. The data reflects people's interest based on number of searches on Google. Bluehost and HostGator, EIG-owned companies, are clearly trending down. On the other hand, SiteGround is trending up as it gains in popularity.

Why You Never See Wealthy Affiliate Hosting on Top 10 Lists

I have been a member of the Wealthy Affiliate Training Program since May 2016. Wealthy Affiliate is an all-in-one training package including managed WordPress website hosting.

The hosting package is not separately priced. However, Wealthy Affiliate likes to compare themselves to WP Engine, Pressable, and Pagely.

Wealthy Affiliate members use the WA Site Manager to manage their websites as Wealthy Affiliate does not offer cPanel or alternative control panels. I have built sites for over 20 years, so I prefer using cPanel.

Wealthy Affiliate takes the pressure off of newbies trying to manage their websites.

Use a Website Hosting Checklist

I created a checklist a while back to help me sort through all the claims of best hosting around. The website hosting industry is highly competitive. So it can be difficult comparing hosting features among the companies.

While the checklist lists a number of features, a user should prioritize the most important features they want.

The following image shows the checklist I created to sort through all the competing claims among hosting features.

webhosting checklist example

Checklists help organize product searches. This example shows SiteGround features.

For example, security is important to me because several of my websites were hacked years ago. So security is my #1 priority. My #2 priority is technical support because when I have a problem like a hacked site, I want to talk to someone. There is nothing worse than communicating with technical support staff by email.

Summary of Website Hosting Reviews

After reviewing so many hosting plans, it is obvious that defining your hosting requirements is critical before searching.

You should prioritize your hosting needs as well. Is technical support more important than speed or price? Or is uptime more important?

One last bit of advice. Read the small print before committing to a hosting plan.
