How to Build a Website

Learning how to build a website has never been easier. A home business owner can set up a website in a matter of minutes. Gone are the days where you HAD to know HTML and CSS.

Today, you have the option of using an online website builder associated with a web host, using a stand alone web editor or hiring a website designer. I am going to talk about how to build a website using an online website builder associated with a web host. I will talk about the alternatives as we go along.

First, using an online website builder associated with your web host gives you three advantages.

  1. Step-by-step building wizard – the online builder makes it easy to create your website. Select a theme, add your information through a step-by-step process and save to publish your website to the internet. Regardless of which website builder you use, you still have to create or write the content.
  2. Pre-built templates – your web host provides a number of pre-made website templates for you to choose.
  3. No online file uploading – the online builder makes it easy to publish your website. You no longer have to upload all the website files using a File Transfer Protocol (FTP) program from your computer to your web host file system.

  1. Hi there, I’m actually finding myself interested in building my own website for a while now. It was always a dream of mine, but just like you say, it was really complicated a while back. After reading this post I understand that its not only for experts anymore, correct? Lets say I have a site.. How will I promote it?

    1. With WordPress and other Content Management Systems, just about anyone can build a website without knowing all the technical skills. When it comes to promoting your website, you have a number of options. Please read my article on How to Get More Website Traffic for more info. Thanks, I appreciate your comments.

  2. Hi Glen,
In fact as you stated quite well in your article, in fact today it is so much easier for even the new individual first starting out with his/her online business in the process of building a first website.

Compared to how it used to be 10+ years ago when you had to have experience in computer programming.coding, website design, graphics and etc. now you don’t need that type of educational background.

As fact as you strongly alluded to, Wealthy Affiliate as a company training individuals how to grow an online business, they have all of the tools – plus an affiliation with WordPress that would all be available. No need to have to do a search online for these very website building tools, and then also having your website hosted on a platform.

You presented it in a very easy-to-understand manner to the “newbie” who has zero experience in building his/her first website.

    1. Thank you, Jeff. I certainly remember the old days using an editor to code websites. I still use an editor on occasion to do simple stuff.
