About Me

I created this site to help veterans build their own online home businesses the right way.

Glen Palo, owner of Home Business for VeteransGlen Palo here. I am just an old internet marketing hack. I have been doing this internet marketing thingy since 1996.

I have great wife, 5 kids and 9 grandkids. I am a brother, uncle, father, grandfather, husband, veteran, golfer, and work-at-home entrepreneur among other things. I am a Christian, world traveler, internet marketer, mentor and friend to mention a few other things.

My Navy career started in 1971. I went to boot camp in San Diego at the Recruit Training Center. My first tour of duty was at the Navy Fleet Intelligence Center, Pacific. Nearing the end of my enlistment, the FICPAC career counselor convinced me to apply for Office Candidate School at Newport, Rhode Island. I received a commission as an Ensign in the Navy Supply Corps. I retired in 1991 during Desert Storm.

Like many military people retiring after 20 years of service, retirement pay does not get the bills paid. Especially in my case trying to raise 5 children. Besides getting a job, I also wanted to work for myself, be my own boss.

My mom was my inspiration. Because her career was stymied by the corporate “glass ceiling” and probably age discrimination, she wanted to start her own business. With my dad’s encouragement, she started a general construction company with one of her business associates. My mom was 64 years old at the time and the country was in the middle of the 1974 recession. I still remember the times I woke up to find my mom working on construction drawings and blueprints spread all over the dining room table.

I started my small business in 1996 providing tax preparation services to individuals and small companies. A number of my tax clients were small business owners operating out of their homes. I researched creating other sources of income, particularly on the internet since these businesses could be operated from home.

Major surgery put me out of business in 2006. It took quite awhile regain my full strength and stamina. But I am back! Starting over was not so bad. I loved the fun and challenge. But here is the best part, it is not hard. It’s simple when you have a plan!

I want to help other veterans create their own home businesses. Create a life-changing income using the “take-charge” attitudes developed in their military service. As General Colin Powell said, “There are no secrets to success. It is the result of preparation, hard work, and learning from failure.”

My objective is to help you create your own business and work from home like I do.

  1. Hello Glen.
Jim here, disabled Vietnam Veteran living in Thailand right now…great site and great idea to set up this site.
I have been involved in Internet marketing for a little over 5 years. Did it mostly to avoid boredom living in Thailand. Made some money with traffic exchanges and have dabbled in several different types of products and services.
Living in Thailand with my beautiful Thai wife I live on mostly ssi and VA disability. Its good for us living here. ..anyway, my question for you is this…
I am involved with 3 different programs that is meant to help people make money not by sitting on their butts but by actually doing some work online.
Right now I am advertising on 1 paid classified advertising site, 2 traffic exchanges and the typical Craigslist and Backpages sites as well.
You by chance know of any “real” paid classifies sites that actually are viewed by business ops people? Thats my first questions. I know there are many sites around the USA some claim to be excellent and others are put together by someone who doesnt know how to set up their sites…
Just wondering if you were in my shoes where you might be promoting your products and services.
My ultimate goal is to move my Thai wife and I to USA where I have a well-paying job selling advertising lined up.
Anyway, if you have any thoughts please send them along.
Thanks Glen. Hope to hear back from you soon..

    1. Hi Jim. Thanks for stopping by! Regarding real classified ad sites, they are not as popular as they once were. With that said, Craig’s List and Backpage are probably the best followed by ebayclassified. I have also used these:

      http://adpost.com
      http://adlandpro.com
      http://www.classifiedads.com/
      http://www.usfreeads.com/
      http://epage.com/

As always, I recommend anyone starting out to develop a business plan with a budget and marketing plan. This will identify your goals and constraints. The purpose is to help keep you on target and not distracted by all the junk in the make-money-online niche. I included a budget because your efforts should be defined as a business. I once wrote an ebook (maybe 12 years ago) on how to build a business online for free. It can be done. But it is difficult to succeed doing it for free when you are competing with businesses that spend money.

I built and host this site at Wealthy Affiliates. I have other sites hosted elsewhere. At some point, I will consolidate them all with one web host, most likely Wealthy Affiliates. Internet marketing has evolved considerably since I started. And will continue to evolve. Internet marketing is currently focused on content marketing (as well as social media marketing). My focus now is building this site as an “authority” site to help veterans build their own online businesses. As I run across business opportunities, I will review and rate them as part of this site. I will also continue to add content. I will The objective is to be ranked at Google and other search sites. I am still not at the point to fully monetize this site by running Google Adword Ads and Amazon links.

I hope this helps. I would love to see more questions and comments.
