How many middle and upper class people try keeping up with the Joneses?

People with a poverty mentality are constantly fixated on money. They complain they never have enough. And they don’t have enough because it is someone else’s fault. Their boss does not pay them enough. Or it is the fault of the economy. Or because the government is not helping them.

A poverty mentality can manifest itself in the form of wealth display. Someone who has a poverty mentality does not have a vision of their future. Instead, they focus on the here and now in the form of instant gratification.

Poverty mentality reflects a dislike of rich people. It is a jealousy of the lifestyle, possessions and prosperity displayed by others who have “made it.” It is the jealousy of the “One Percenters” or the Elites who have the gold and make the rules.

Poverty mentality often reflects fear-based decision making. Decisions are based on avoiding failure or losing what they currently have. Fear of failure often prevents people from achieving success in life.

Change your mindset

Changing is never easy. It requires getting out of your comfort zone and doing something new or different. Zig Ziglar was a great motivator helping many to change and create an abundance mindset. The following two quotes sum it up well.

Success should be stated of future goals, not just surviving day-to-day or getting by. With goals or objectives, you can make a plan and execute it. You CAN achieve life-changing income through a home business of your own.

I believe he does. He shows the characteristics. While the amount of his wealth has not been substantiated, he appears constantly motivated by obtaining more. How else can one explain the companies he has started in so many different industries? He has or had companies in industries such as airlines, wine, food, network marketing, casinos, golf, books, classic cars, home furnishings, just to name a few. Mr. Trump has also shown a public dislike for the old money rich and powerful like the Bush and Romney families. Yet he strives to be like them. The expansion into so many different industries may also reflect the fear of losing it all. (Selecting Mr. Trump as an example is based on his public persona and the intense media interest he draws. Political affiliation is not relevant to this discussion.)

Your headline or subject line is the first thing people see. So it needs to be great. If your readers do not find the headline interesting, then they are not going to view the rest of your message.

When you are developing your ads, spend 50% of your time on your headline. Write different versions (the more the better) and look at how you can condense your message into fewer, more powerful words. Words that reflect a benefit or solution for the reader.

Keep the story simple

Great or compelling ad copy is concise and focused, but also conversational in tone. Do not lecture your readers. Write as if you are speaking to them. You want to engage with them to help them solve a problem, not persuade them. Keep your sentences short and simple. A nine or ten year old child should be able to read them without difficulty.

For a sales page, the general rule of thumb is the more that a product costs, the longer the sales page should be. However, with more video and audio being added, the recommended length is always changing. In general, your copy should be as long as it needs to be to tell the story.

This means that you need to make sure that your ad copy includes everything that a prospective buyer would want to know, while also not adding more than they want.


You can help your readers by keeping your paragraphs short.  Create plenty of white space. Each paragraph should contain just one point, with some supporting content. A paragraph should be two or three sentences long. Sometimes shorter or longer. Use headings and sub-headings, as well as bullet points or lists to help the reader scan through your article.

Check your spelling and grammar

Aim for an informal and conversational style, but pay attention to grammar and spelling. Print off a copy of your article and go through it manually, if necessary.
